What Is The LEPC?

In 1986, Congress passed a landmark known as the Emergency Planning Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA).  This law required communities across the country to form Local Emergency Planning Committees (LEPCs) for two primary purposes: to develop and implement local emergency plans and to make information about chemical hazards available to the public. These LEPCs are made up of concerned citizens and officials from local government, law enforcement, fire and emergency services, hospitals, schools, civic and environmental groups, industry, and the media.

The Jefferson Davis County Local Emergency Planning Committe(LEPC) is a dedicated service that helps to ensure the safety among the citizens of Jefferson Davis County. The LEPC provides information about hazardous materials safety throughout the community. The LEPC helps the community understand the safety concerns among hazardous materials and the affects it has on themselves and the environment.
